Lunchtime concerts and other past-times.
Day Five already. How time flies. Mr.R's still fretting over how to keep me occupied while he's at work - pesters me to go around, take a walk by myself, explore - I tell him I'm on holiday, which means I'm quite happy sleeping, eating, watching tv, reading, writing, making magnetic poetry and just pottering around without a schedule- he didn't seem too convinced!
Being at home most of the time by myself also means that I , the eternal organiser, can't sit still. I've, ummm, rearranged some of his books :D and hopefully he'll be able to find stuff more easily - but I'm sure he's just being polite when he doesn't complain about me invading his space - maybe I should just practice sitting still a bit more.. He doesn't mind me repairing his PC though - there's going to be a lot more disk space by the time I'm thru with this laptop (if it doesn't crash before that - perish the thought!!) Am pleased that I remembered DOS commands today - it's funny how some things stick in memory!
All said and done, there's much happening to keep me occupied - this afternoon, we sneaked to a little lunchtime concert at a nearby church - this church has lunch time concerts every Thursday during the summer. There were not many people, but it was a treat, especially for a novice like me. In the past 8 months or so that I’ve known Mr.R, I have heard, listened to and tried to appreciate more classical music than I have in my entire life so far. And so far, I quite like it - though to actually make sense of the terminology and the "technical" bits is going to take some time - and I've got Mr.R to help me with that. Like last evening, as we listened to the BBC Proms, he explained stuff to me about the music - what to listen for, what it meant.... so yes, there's still hope. For now, I'll just enjoy the music.
And try not to ponder on why we can't replicate something like this back home in Mumbai. As it is attendance in churches during weekdays is negligble, so why can't a church like the Holy Name Cathedral at Colaba, St.John the Baptist at Ballard Pier or some place equally historic come up with something similarly creative? They would attract more people than the regular daily mass goers. How about a choir, that sings great songs? I think the potential is there where office goers can drop in for 1/2 hour or so during their lunch break - if it's not made out to be a religious thing. Archbishop, hope you're reading this!
Mr.R says I love Mumbai too much - because I always have ideas for it on my mind - but I'm not sure love is what keeps me obsessed with it. I see the potential and it keeps me going - perhaps someday someone will find some value in these pages and make the difference that I can't. All I can do I keep this idea factory going........
Keep it going! I wish I could do something...all I can do is encourage you to continue. Well, have you tried looking for a Mumbai blog directory or something? There's a chance you could find some like-minded people. Looks like you're enjoying England..take it easy and have fun!
