Canterbury tales

The days go by and before you know it, it'll be time to start packing again......

This weekend went by so fast, seemed like it never happened.

Mote Park in Maidstone is a fabulously scenic park of 450 acres of undulating strech of lush grass, lakes, and woods. The open spaces make you want to just lie on the grass and gaze never-endingly at the spotless blue English summer sky. An oasis of quiet in an already quiet country - the hum of the motorway only a distant distraction, if you really paid attention. It was fun walking around, watching kids prance around with dogs and parents (!), people trying out model sailboats on a duck infested lake, and the greens, oh the greens were a sight for sore eyes. When will we have something like this for the general public in India,I wondered? Nothing fancy. Just miles of open space, maintained well, just a space for people to walk about - Chota Kashmir, Joggers Park et al don't count, ok?

Sunday afternoon we drove to Canterbury, a quaint town with loads of history. The cathedral is simply stunning. The other attractions are the Canterbury castle (not much left, just ruins) and an enchanting Canterbury tales museum - that was great fun and an insight into Chaucer's much read work.

It's the work week again. And I'm lying about putting on calories :) Have made all these plans to go for a walk soon, but the wind is in the trees and it's getting cold. Am much tempted to stay indoors and stay warm for now. But some exercise will do me good. And thinking that in a few weeks, it'll be back to long-jumping into moving trains, I better get those muscles a-moving......

Uma Bharti is on the loose again. And Russia mourns for its children. Indo-Pak talks end fruitlessly again (who are they kidding?). Life goes on.....
