Who's the master?

A few days without access to the internet and I had almost lost the little sanity that I had left. I fretted and fumed at AOL's negligence, insensitivity and total disregard for their customers. The stories of several other users on Aol only served to fuel my discomfort. Aol's Livehelp didn't acknowledge even once that the problem could have been from their side, but kept giving long lists of things to do including reinstalling everything. (In retrospect : Glad I didn't listen to them completely!) I must have lost several calories over those days just walking to and from the laptop, checking if the problem had been resolved.

Mr.R in his wisdom comments on my obsession with getting this to work. He wonders aloud who the master is.. Technology has taken over my life. I'm a slave to this online monster, whereas it should have been the other way around. If I can't repair it, I can't be at peace. That's a worrying thought indeed.

It's not always so bad. If I KNOW that there's not going to be access , esp. if I'm on holiday or not in the vicinity of a computer, I can be sensible and relax and do other things. It's when things suddenly go wrong and I'm cut off from the rest of my world, that I get restless. Especially if I have to be sure that it's not anything that I have done that has disconnected us..

Anyway, Mr.R picked up a cd for Aol 9 and we installed it and voila! it works! Weird indeed. The problem was therefore with Aol's software and not with our settings. And they continue to keep their heads in the sand about it...

Alls well that ends well. Hope it's ended for sure.
