Calling all Story Tellers
If you have a vivid imagination, enjoy making up stories or are a good writer, try your luck with this Short Story Competition run by www.ideas4writers.co.uk. An excerpt from their newsletter is given below :
2005 Short Story Competition
You are invited to submit a short story of up to 2,000 words, beginning your story with one of the first lines given below.
(a) Children's story for ages 9-12
First line: I knew it was bad news when the letter growled as it hit the hall floor.
(b) Erotica
First line: Having placed the ad in the wanted column, Sophie waited for the phone to ring.
(c) Fantasy
First line: There was no water surrounding Abbie in the bath, just hundreds and hundreds of fifty pound notes.
(d) Thriller
First line: It is an unwritten law that every institution should have its own smell.
The overall winner will receive £200 (200 GBP).
Closing date: 30 November 2005
Entry is free and open to everyone, published or unpublished. You do not have to be a member of ideas4writers. International entries are welcome.
We can only accept one story per entrant - you can only enter one category.
All entries must be your own original work and not previously published.
