Nanowrimo 2006 : 4 days to go

As you can probably tell from my brand new shiny participant icon on the left, I'm once again attempting NaNoWriMo this year. For those of you not familiar with this wonderful event,Nanowrimo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It is held every November and the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

Now, you may think this is an impossible task. Miracles, however, have known to happen - even among newbie novel writers.

The idea is not, to have a complete-ready-to-send-to-publisher novel, but to get you into the habit of writing to a deadline. That way, at the end of the month, you have your first draft in place. You can spend the rest of the year polishing it if you like.

I've attempted Nano in 2004 and 2005. Both those projects languished as I ran out of plot and my characters failed to entertain me enough.

With only four days left to go, I still don't have a plot/outline ready for this year. (You can have a 'proper' plot and outline ready with fully developed characters - in advance. The only rule is that you should not be writing any prose for the novel itself.)

Any ideas for a plot?

Why not give it a try? Visit www.nanowrimo.org for more info or to sign up. My user name there is mumbaiwallah, as well.

Another good site for new writers (highly recommended) is www.newbie-writers.com . Very friendly, reassuring and supportive site for new writers.
