Me Mumbaiwallah!
Me (as in the Marathi 'Mee' for 'I') Mumbaiwallah. Not Mumbaikar. Not Mumbaiite.
For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, let me attempt to make some sense. I am an Indian who has lived in Mumbai forever (or Bombay as we used to call it lovingly). This city is Home. Even with all its reputation for the slums, squalor, dirt, beggars and corruption, its still the best place to be in on the sub-continent. Love it or hate it, there's no in-between feelings here. I love it. And love it enough to know that I want to leave it. It's too painful to watch it die a slow, but steady death.
This blog is about a city which continues to inspire. A city that brings thousands here every single day with stars in their eyes and a few rupees in their pockets. A city that can boast of the best, yet shelter the worst.
This blog is an attempt to document life in this little island which never sleeps. In the process, I hope to bring some of my own life into these posts. I hope this daily diary of a survivor in this city is as entertaining for you who read, as it is for me who lives through it.
