Home-ily

It has been a while since I was last here. And nothing has changed. The people, the filth, the crazy Punjabi boys who think that the streets of Mumbai are their version of Delhi's DTC buses... Chembur hasn't changed much. It's over a year and a half since we've moved and the massive gap in the concrete near the school is still there. Almost two years, and no sign of a repair. (Or maybe they DID repair it and....)The place still floods like it did every year because of the hole. Life goes on....

I finish off my work and quickly get out of there. It's amazing how you can live your entire life in one place and yet never feel like it's "home". 'Home' to me is not a place where I come to every evening. It could be a person too. Home is someplace where I feel safe, secure, loved. Home could be my mum. Close friends. Or a workplace where you are happy. Home is that assurance that you will be loved no matter what.

When we moved into our new home, we felt that we've always lived here, although it's at the other end of the city and the only time we've been here was during our house-hunting adventure that took over a year to finish! Some places, some people have that effect on you - you find some faces 'familiar', like you've known them before, but you don't...It's strange.... Which reminds me to put "Past life therapy" on my list of things to do before I die - very intriguing indeed!

Back to Chembur. The differences in temperatures is startling too. It's probably because of the high levels of pollution, truck traffic and general proliferation of industries that Chembur is a few degrees warmer than any of the western suburbs. Although Chembur easily has more trees than say, Borivili or Malad.

Anyway,that does not matter anymore.

Tour of North Mumbai completed in seven hours including a stopover at Bandra. Got lots of productive work done [and a haircut at my fave salon in Chembur :)]. Not bad for a Saturday morning.

Next week this time, I'll be on a plane halfway across the world...
