Black boots at Churchgate

It was the black boots, calf length, on a fair leg that first caught my eye.

It seemed so incongruous and out of place to be there at the food stall at Churchgate, at nine this morning. The boots and the leg belonged to a young girl, early 20s, in a sleeveless black top and a little black skirt. The boots, the bare leg and the little black outfit stood out among the salwar kameezes, the trousers and the saris that hurried away toward the exit. Now that I think of it, one doesn't get to see many women in (short) skirts these days - the display of leg covered by long flouncy meters of cotton and lace, thanks to the popularity of peasant skirts. Trousers - denim and otherwise- are the more popular choice of dress for the women here, besides the salwar kameez. College kids and working women prefer to cover their legs - less stares and comments that way. It is also easier to kick someone.

15 : the number of working days left, before I go.
(my calculations; could be more, or less)
