Wok the Talk

It was a 'wok' in the park.

Mr R and I went to see
Ken Hom in action at the local John Lewis store this afternoon. This was inspite of watching him on ITV this morning on Saturday Cooks. Mr R and I are both fans of the man - his simple, easy stir-fry recipes are life savers. Infact, just last night, I rescued a wilting courgette by stirring up a 'Courgette and Chilli' stir-fry. I added my own twist to it but sprinkling some mushrooms to it, but it turned out well in the end!

At the demo, we asked him a couple of questions, got an autograph on our (old, splattered with groundnut/sesame oil) copy of his recipe book, tasted the food he dished out, and then bought a KH wok to complete the day.

Mr R celebrated by cooking a fish stir-fry for dinner.

Always a crowd-pleaser.

New Year, New Look

Well, what do you think of my new look blog? Huh?

I thought it reflected on my theme of being 'elsewhere' , in a place other than my own. Ofcourse, I look much better than that woman (though she's much thinner, from what I can tell!). The picture has some of my favorite notions - looking out over new horizons, the sparkling cleanliness, white clothes, the sky, flowers, wicker furniture... and a faceless name.

I tried a couple of floral templates, but they are so boring :( Anybody have any interesting template/skin sites to share? I like blogfrocks, but they seem to be still stuck with the same old templates. Now that I've realised it's so easy to change your skin, I might do it more often. Watch this space!

The aroma of fresh sambar drifts from my kitchen distracting me from this template-finding-code-editing business. I've concocted sambar from a ready mix packet and added some brinjal, carrot, okra and mushrooms! Ever had mushroom in sambar? Well, it tastes okay. Next time, I'll look for more 'appropriate' veggies, but right now, I just can't be bothered. My hot meal beckons.

Bet my mum is laughing right now, thinking of all the times she tried to teach me to cook, but I had better things to do. Not that I regret not having learnt...

Done!

So, threatening myself works.

Article finished and submitted in record time after last post on blog. Must send out some more queries though. Seems such a waste of talent to just let the words stay in my head ;-)

My writing (and running) output has dramatically decreased after I've started work about 3 weeks ago. I worked and travelled much, much harder back home, but the sense of exhaustion and tiredness at the end of the day is still very much there - all you want to do is crash and sleep like Rip Van Winkle. I think that my tiredness comes from the fact that I get bored very easily when there's someone else making the decisions. I've realised long ago that working for someone else is never going to make me completely happy - I find it hard not to question decisions or reserve comments. I know that if I had been running a charity or a similar organisation, I would go all out to make the public know that we existed. And I would be good at it. (Hmmm, maybe that's my calling in life!) There are ways to do publicity/fundraising without spending any money at all. Bemoaning the lack of funds or non-cooperation of other people isn't the solution. That applies to here or at home. It's the same story. But well, what do I know....

It's time to leave for work. Have rustled up a pasta and pepper lunch for myself (Mum, don't look so amazed!). Makes a change from the sandwiches and fruit menu. Hope you have a yummy lunch too. Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine!
